What happened
The Gambling Commission opened a licence review of Grosvenor Casinos Limited, part of Rank Group, after receiving information and key event notices from the operator. While the review was under way, further intelligence prompted a targeted compliance assessment of one of the company’s venues in June 2025.
The review found failings in the company’s anti-money laundering and social responsibility controls, and breaches of the Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice. The outcome, announced on 7 October 2026, is a £5 million settlement.
Why it matters to players
Social responsibility controls are the systems that are supposed to spot and act on signs of gambling harm. When a major high-street and online operator is found to have breached them, it is a reminder that a well-known brand name is not, by itself, a guarantee of good practice.
Enforcement outcomes like this are public. You can read the Commission’s own public statement, and check any operator’s licence status and regulatory history on the Gambling Commission register before you play.
Our view
This is exactly why THUNDRSS treats licence and conduct checks as the first test for any listing, and why our casino records stay as unverified previews until those checks are done and dated.
